SPALTED BEECH TURNED WOODEN BOWL by Patrick H Lindsay

Beautiful Spalted Beech bowl , colouring of  tans & blacks.

The very lengthy creation process takes years of lathe work, rubbing down, drying out, lathe work...  but the result is spectacular grain highlighted by the dark spalted lines. This bowl has some of the best grains and markings of any we have seen and is a first class example of its' type.

Another Patrick Lindsay masterpiece!

Photography cannot convey the "presence" of this piece, its` beauty to the touch and feel, as well as to the eye. Exceptional!

Absolutely unique - as you will appreciate, there is only one!

All of these bowls are of Gallery standard and represent an opportunity to own a PHL flagship original at a truly outstanding price.

You will receive this piece directly from Patrick H Lindsay.

"The special dignity of great trees, the varied patterns of sapwood, heartwood, burl, bark, different for each species, the visual and tactile elegance of beautiful finishes, and the subtle grace of many bowl shapes captured my eye and my heart."   Edward Jacobson.

Patrick H Lindsay is entered upon the Register of Professional Turners. His award winning work is the result of many years of meticulous labour. He specialises in large bowls and hollow forms. Larger bowls often involve obtaining the whole tree, and the roughed out piece may weigh 5 cwt. These may take 3 years to dry out, and involve many returns to the lathe before being finally finished. Getting the ultra smooth finish which is a Patrick Lindsay trademark, involves working through 5 grades of sandpaper, working over a period of time to get the required finish (all by hand). The equipment to produce such large bowls required an investment of over £10,000, including 2 British made VB36 lathes. With many slow growing tree varieties used, much of his work may have been 100 years or more in the making. All of his pieces are initialled and every one is totally unique.

Patrick Lindsay creations make wonderful, original and lasting gifts. They continue to give pleasure for years, the wood gradually changing hue and shade to create new interest and beauty. Beautiful wood appeals to a basic human instinct and is appreciated by almost everyone.
