Patrick H Lindsay is entered upon the Register of Professional Turners.
His award winning work is the result of many years of meticulous labour added to his natural gift for wood turning. He specialises in large bowls and hollow forms. Larger bowls often involve obtaining the whole tree, and the roughed out piece may weigh 5 cwt. These may take 3 years to dry out, and involve many returns to the lathe before being finally finished. Getting the ultra smooth finish which is a Patrick Lindsay trademark, involves working through 10 grades of sandpaper over a period of time to get the required finish (all by hand).
The equipment to produce such large bowls required an investment of over £10,000, including 2 British made VB36 lathes. With many slow growing tree varieties used, much of his work may have been 100 years or more in the making. All of his pieces are initialled on the base and every one is totally unique.
Whether you view his peices as items of practical value, items of great beauty to be admired and cherished, artistic pieces to be enjoyed and displayed, or just as ornaments with a "feel good" factor... you cannot fail to be impressed and delighted.
As a natural product, the wood used will change hue and colour over time, adding further to the long term pleasure of ownership.
